Blue’s cool and calm demeanor gives hides his battle prowess. Blue has a battle style that is best described as strategic. Blue always takes all aspects of a situation into account and chooses the actions that will best help his team gain an advantage.
strat·e·gy - n.2. a careful plan or method, the art of employing plans or stratagems toward a goal. (The Merrian-Webster Online Dictionary)
When you compare Blue to Red who always acts before he thinks a situation through, Blue may seem to be overly careful. It’s true that Blue doesn’t take the same chances when attacking an enemy; however he also doesn’t just run into traps. Blue takes the time to look for and disarm any traps that may be in his way. He will even withdraw his Pokémon from an intense battle if it will help to keep them safe.
Blue takes the average strategic planning one step further. He doesn’t just consider his surroundings and the advantages or disadvantages his Pokémon may have based on that environment. He doesn’t even rely solely on his Pokémon’s type advantages or abilities. Blue takes his plans a step further than most by incorporating his own body into his strategies. During his battle against Koga, Blue is hit by a Razor Wind attack that was aimed at his heart rather than at his Pokémon. Blue uses Koga’s assumption that he was dead or dying to hit Koga’s team in a surprise attack when he was fighting Red. Blue and Red were able to win that battle because of Blue’s strategic maneuvers rather than because of their strength alone.
