By training his Pokémon and his body and always striving to become the best trainer, he is trying to become improve for Chuck to show how much he appreciated Chuck’s training. Chuck gave Blue a greater appreciation of Pokémon and helped him grow from a helpless, spoiled, and sheltered brat to a strong and independent brat.

As a child Blue was often only mentioned as being “Professor Oak’s grandson”. Through meeting Chuck, who believed a man’s worth was based solely on his actions as opposed to his familial status, Blue was able to gain the self confidence necessary to become his own person and become known as his own person rather than a shadow of his grandfather’s fame.
